Krista Horton | "How does she do it?"

March 01, 2017 6 min read

This week I'd like to welcome the lovely mama, @krista.horton who makes motherhood look oh so cool. She's got a love for interior design and her babies, and if you follow along via Instagram, her feed shows just that. Sometimes, you just have to go with the flow and enjoy the season you are in, and Krista is truly an inspiration to help us to do that! I hope you enjoy! xx- T

Tell us about yourself: Where do you live, age, marital status, number of kids and business.
Hi! My name is Krista Horton and I live in Bakersfield, CA! I am 30 years old, married to my husband, Bryce, with our 2 little babes, Boston aka Boss (3) and Kollyns aka Kolly (1). I am an Instagram influencer and I like to blog on the side from time to time! I dedicate most of my time and energy to Instagram so my blog totally gets the back burner but hopefully one day, I will be able to dedicate more time to it! I also have an interior design business with my sister-in-law/bestie! Between being a stay at home mama, social media influencer, and interior designer, my plate couldn't get any fuller and I love it so much!

Describe a day in the life of you.
A day in the life of me is so inconsistent! We wake up and are usually rushing to get ready and out the door. Some days, we just go out and run errands, have a play date or just get out of the house to find something to do. Other days my sis in law and I (and our four kids) are out shopping for clients or we drop the kids off at our mother in laws so we can go to a meeting with a client or an install. I try and dedicate one day a week to a lazy day that consists of staying home in our pjs and playing and trying to clean! We always try and get home by 3 or 4 so that we're home by the time my hubs is off work! And that's normally when he snaps a pic of us if I need him to and then we do the normal dinner, baths, hang out, clean up and bedtime!

Do you have help? A nanny or housekeeper? Family?
All of our family lives super close, which is so nice! Someone is always around to watch the kids when we need a sitter!

How do you manage to have “me” time?
I usually try and drop the kids off at the grandparents every once in a while to get my hair, a facial or my nails done! A little pampering has always been my favorite thing to do! Or, for me and hubs to go out on a date.

How do you manage to make time to stay in shape? Do you workout? Diet?
I could definitely dedicate more time in this area. I don't work out or diet but I am constantly on the go with the kids, which I feel is a workout in itself! I used to go on a lot more walks but the weather has been too cold or rainy lately!

Do you get ready every day? Makeup, hair and curated outfits?  If so, how do you do it with children?
I get ready 5-6 days out of the week because we're usually out and about so I try to make us somewhat presentable! I just get up and start getting ready right away so I can get it over with! Some days are just a little foundation and mascara with a messy bun but if I'm really lucky, then I can shower and get a little fancier!

Has your style changed after motherhood?
I've always been a laid back kinda girl! I definitely think I get ready more nowadays than I used to because I feel like I need it to feel better about myself! Looking in the mirror at 30 ain't what it used to be (like at 20). But I definitely steer clear of the heels if I'm hauling two kiddos around with me!

What’s your guilty pleasure?
Drive thrus! Especially Starbucks! It's just so convenient and I can’t resist a peach green tea (no water)!

If you breastfeed, how do you schedule your day around feedings and outings
I do still nurse Kolly but I totally just nurse on the go! She's older now so she doesn't need it at her beck and call (although sometimes she thinks she does). But I've always been a go with the flow and just nurse wherever, whenever!

How many hours of sleep to you get a night on average?
I'd say about 9! My kids wake up usually around 8 or 9 but I'm so guilty of staying up late trying to catch up on emails or Instagram.

What is a priority for you, and what gets sacrificed? For example, everyone looks great but the house is a disaster, or the house is clean but work deadlines get pushed back.
Our top priorities are the kids being happy, my work and us getting ready. The house is always a disaster when we leave in the morning but I clean it up when we get home and I always pick up the house before I get into bed! Oh and laundry! That gets sacrificed horribly!

Do you cook meals every day for your family? If so, how do you plan them?
Biggest downfall right here! Just ask my hubs! I never plan out our meals and I hate cooking! We eat out or get take out more often than we should!

Have you ever felt like you are loosing yourself to motherhood and or life? If so, how did you bounce back?
No, I have really never felt that way! I think it's because I was so ready to have kids and I think they're so much fun! I always choose to bring them along to everything with me! It's so boring without them!

Does hubby help you with anything particular? If so, what and how?
A LOT! He's always helping with taking pictures for me and or watching the kids when I am trying to get something done! Nighttime routines are always both of us working together! And he also does the majority of the cooking when we do cook!

How do you manage motherhood and marriage?
We definitely keep up the texts and talking throughout the day so that we don't disconnect from one another! Some nights, we get the kids to bed way too late which leaves us with no time to ourselves but we've been trying to work on that more!! We love ourselves a date night here and there which really helps bring us back together!

Do you work? Do you work in an office or at home? What does your work consist of and how do you get it done during the week?
For my social media, I work from home (or wherever I'm at). Normally on my phone! For my interior design, we work at home or we go out shopping or to our client's homes. I try and answer all my emails during naptime or once the kids go down for the night or when Bryce gets home from work!

Have your circle of friends changed now that you're a mother? if so, how do you meet new mommy friends?
I definitely feel like I have gained so many more friends once becoming a mama! It really brings you together and you develop a really strong bond with those mama's!

What’s the least favorite household chore you dread doing?
Vacuuming! So my hubs does that for me! Thank goodness!

Describe a recent experience when you didn’t have it “all together” and how you handled it all.
Oh gosh I feel like this happens all the time! I never have it all together! All you can do is roll with the punches! I'm not a super stressful person so I try to just go with the flow and not let things get to me too much! Life is just easier that way!

Fill in the blank: As a mother, it's a luxury to __________________
Go to the bathroom alone.

What is your philosophy on balance and does it exist in your home?
I definitely feel like you have to have a balance in order to live a happy, healthy life! I can't say we always have that balance down to a science but we work on it every single day!

What are your dreams outside of motherhood that you would like to accomplish?
I really love this social media community and being an influencer! I find it so fun to snap pics and promote products that make my life easier and that I really love! I also hope to really grow with our interior design business! Who knows, maybe one day we will get our own tv show.

What is one thing that keeps you sane?
Starbucks and/or Malibu and diet coke. lol

What is one question you'd like to ask our fellow mama readers?
What type of pictures/posts do you like seeing the most? Fashion, home or lifestyle? Or do you like seeing a mixture of it all?
